Why Pilates?

Pilates is a low impact form of conditioning exercise.  It teaches you how to activate the deep supporting muscles of your core and increases your awareness of how you move, drawing attention to areas that might be weaker, tighter or stronger.   By using the right exercises to address these areas of imbalance you can begin to move more efficiently, allowing each muscle to do the specific job it was designed to do and so restore balance to your body.  As your awareness of efficient movement increases and you learn to integrate the principles of Pilates into your daily tasks you will become better equipped to manage the physical stresses and strains of everyday life.

Pilates has something to offer people of all ages and levels of ability and fitness, from beginners to elite athletes.   The health benefits of being more physically active are well established.  Pilates can help strengthen the body, improve posture, flexibility, balance and co-ordination.  It can also be a useful tool in managing stress and fatigue.

Why physio led Pilates?

Physiotherapists have an in depth knowledge of how the body moves and in using exercise effectively in the rehabilitation process.  This makes them uniquely suited to teaching Pilates.

Anne teaches using the APPI method which is a form of Pilates specifically designed by physiotherapists. Exercises can be modified to suit the individual ensuring they are always practised safely and effectively.
